    Electoral office manager’s jeep burnt out, arson suspected

    Basseterre, St. Kitts:
    Arson is suspected in the total destruction of motor jeep PA 3335, owned by Mr. Oliver Knight, Manager of the Electoral Office, by fire at approximately 2 a.m. yesterday morning, January 10th, in the garage of his residence at Bird Rock.
     
    According to a Police press release, prior to retiring for the night, Knight parked his vehicle in his garage but was awakened in the early hours of the morning by an explosion.
     
    Upon investigating the strange noise, Knight realized that his jeep was engulfed in flames.
     
    The Fire and Rescue Services were immediately summoned but by the time they arrived the jeep was totally burned out and the house was charred by the flames originating from the garage.
     
    Fortunately, no one was injured in the inferno.
     
    The incident has created much interest in the public. Many are of the opinion that the suspected act of arson was an attempt to dampen the ongoing registration process.
     
    One Minister in the Labour Party Administration branded the incident as a terrorist act. He condemned the act and noted that such would not deter the cause of democracy in the twin island state.
     
    The Police also condemned the incident and are imploring residents who may have information that will lead to the apprehension of the suspect (s) to come forward.
