BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, September 22nd, 2011 (CUOPM) – Several world leaders have been congratulating St. Kitts and Nevis on the attainment of 28 years on Nationhood.
United States President, the Hon. Barak Obama in a message to Governor General His Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian conveyed the best wishes of the American people.
“St. Kitts and Nevis is an important partner for the United States as we strive to strengthen meaningful democracy, protect human rights, promote security and rule of law, and expand prosperity in the Caribbean region. We look forward to a continued strong and effective relationship with you and your people,” said President Obama.
The President of France, His Excellency Nicolas Sarkozy noted that within the framework the of the Caribbean Community a French delegation visited Basseterre on 1st July 2011, during the 32nd summit of the Caricom head of government, to present the approaches and works undertaken under the French presidency of G.20.
“It is indeed important facing the international economic crisis, that all the governments of the region can coordinate their efforts particularly with regard to financial governance,” said President Sarkozy, who added that the visit to Guadeloupe last year by a St. Kitts and Nevis delegation, followed by Prime Minister Douglas’ visit to Paris, the French capital “would have further strengthened our cooperation relations, in particular with the French Overseas Departments which are your neighbours.”
Dutch Queen, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix said the Federation’s National Day, gives her “an opportunity to extend to your Excellency my congratulations and my best wishes for a prosperous future for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.”
Israel’s President His Excellency Shimon Peres wished Governor General Sebastian warm and sincere wishes for his personal well-being and for the continued progress and prosperity for St. Kitts and Nevis and its people.
Mexican President, His Excellency Felipe Calderon told Governor General Sir Cuthbert that Mexico will “continue strengthening the dialogue and understanding that enriches the bilateral relations between our nations.”
President Calderon promised Prime Minister Douglas “continuity to the ties of friendship and cooperation that characterize the relations between our two counties.”
President of the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Christian Wulff told Sir Cuthbert he trusts that the close and friendly relations between Germany and St. Kitts and Nevis and their peoples will go from strength to strength.
Secretary General of the United Nations, His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, in his message to Sir Cuthbert noted that today more than ever, the problems faced transcend national borders.
“Finding and implementing solutions for these complex and connected challenges requires patience, determination and cooperation, - effective, collective global action. I am determined to see the United Nations keep pace with a rapidly changing world, and to see it deliver real, meaningful results on all three pillars of our work: development, peace and security and human rights,” said the United Nations chief.
He said he is encouraged to know that he can count on the leadership, dedication and support of St. Kitts and Nevis in the continuing endeavour to build a sustainable, safe and just world for all.
President of the Portuguese Republic, Her Excellency Anibal Cavaco Silva; the President of Algeria His Excellency Abdelaziz Bouteflika were among leaders expressing congratulations on the Federation’s 28th Anniversary of Independence, which was celebrated on the 19th September 2011.
