{Charlestown, Nevis. January 15, 2008} Novel Braithwaite will serve a two year prison term for stealing ten pounds of salt fish from Super Foods supermarket. The salt fish was valued at EC$153.

He committed the offence on January 9, 2008.  He had pleaded guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Yasmine Clarke told Braithwaite, before sentencing him, that he had become a habitual offender. In June 2007, he was fined EC$800 for committing an offence and in October, 2007, he had been in court again.

The Magistrate heard that Braithwaite had gone to Super Foods supermarket on January 9th. After he had stolen the salt fish, he tried to get out through the exit door but a cashier happened to see him.

Braithwaite ran out but the supermarket’s staff caught up with him and they found ten pounds of salt fish on his person.

A report on the theft was made to the police station. ~~Adz:Right~~

Braithwaite pleaded for mercy, saying that on the above mentioned day, he had been doing some landscape work and he had nothing to eat.
