Fire at Fancy Loaf Deli

{Basseterre; St. Kitts} Quick response by a unit from the Basseterre Fire and Rescue Services Department prevented a “heated” situation at the Fancy Loaf Deli from escalating into one of catastrophic proportions.
According to information reaching SKNVibes.com, earlier this morning a fire started in the kitchen of the Fancy Loaf Deli which is located on Church Street, and the Fire and Rescue Services had to be called in to extinguish the blaze, which threatened to engulf the entire kitchen.
Fire Station Officer FSO (Stn) Everette O’Garro told SKNVibes.com that the call was received at about 9:09 and in less than a minute a unit was dispatched to the scene. Upon its arrival there, the Unit quickly controlled the blaze.
O’Garro explained that the fire was a “grease fire” and further noted that a simple procedure could have prevented the incident from occurring.
“It’s the same problem we have been warning people about over and over again. Persons who operate restaurants or who operate kitchens sometimes allow grease on their stoves, or other appliances, to accumulate and when it builds up enough, it turns into fuel and can cause deadly fires,” O’Garro noted.
He said that damage to the kitchen and its contents was minimal but again reminded of the need to clean any grease from kitchen appliances, especially stoves and other such appliances.
“The Fire and Rescue Services would like to, once again, warn proprietors who operate kitchens to periodically clean and remove accumulated grease from on or under the panels of appliances,” he warned.
Business at the Fancy Loaf Deli continued as per the norm, following the incident.
