BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – LAW enforcement authorities in St. Maarten are working to put the pieces together after a young man from Nevis was murdered there last week.

According to SXMIslandtime.com, the victim is 27-year-old Anthony Carl Whyte and the incident occurred on Tuesday (Sept. 20) at his Madrid Drive home on Dutch Quarter.

The media house reported that the young man was “shot several times after an entry was made into his home…”

The publication further indicated that Whyte’s shooting was committed by unknown gunmen.

“The victim managed to run through someone else's apartment and escaped from the shooters after he was shot at least once on his right side. Neighbours said they heard the dogs in the area barking around 2:00 am and shortly after that, they heard some banging before gunshots were fired. They said when the gunmen left they all ventured outside and called out to their neighbour whom they found not far away bleeding profusely.”

An ambulance arrived in the vicinity of the scene shortly after, along with police officers and, as explained by SXMIslandtime.com, the deplorable condition of the road prevented the ambulance from making the journey to the area where the injured man was laid.

With the help of neighbours, however, he was taken to the ambulance and transported to the St. Maarten Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The media house further reported that Whyte was believed to have been involved in unsavoury activities including the “illegal transportation by sea of suspected stolen merchandise”.

Investigations into the murder are being made, however, according to the publication, the assailants are apparently still on the run.

Whyte was to have celebrated his 28th birthday tomorrow (Sept. 26).
