The Customs and Exercise Department of St. Christopher and Nevis is hosting their fifth ever Caribbean Customs Law Enforcement Council “CCLEC” Junior Officers basic Training Course.   A short opening ceremony was held earlier this morning January 21st at the H.S. Hanley Training Room at the Customs & Exercise Headquarters to give a brief overview of the program and to welcome the trainees

The objective of the course is to help with the enhancement and service of the junior officers as their mission statement states “We will serve our citizens, collect and protect revenues with fairness, efficiency and integrity and enforce compliance laws at our borders”

According to Launlia Archibald an executive officer, the CCLEC recognizes the need for a formalized training program for junior officers in the Caribbean.

A task analysis was produced in August 1992, which was the most important reference tool aiding the design of the junior officers basic course.  The course was piloted in May 1993 then redesigned and delivered in august 1993.

There are a total number of twenty junior officers in the 2008 CCLEC training program, two from Montserrat, three from Nevis and fifteen from St. Kitts.  The program was last held in 2003 and the duration of the course is seven weeks from January 21st to march 7th.
