$4000 to be collected from traffic law breakers

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A collective $4000 is expected to be paid by individuals who, over the past couple of weeks, have been found guilty of committing traffic infractions.

     

    While some motorists appeared before the District ‘A’ Traffic Court on September 15, others appeared on September 20.

     

    Jihan Morris of Bird Rock was convicted of driving without due care and attention and fined $300 to be paid by the ending of October, 2011. A 14-day custodial sentence would be imposed for failure to adhere to those conditions.

     

    The offence was committed on April 15, 2011.

     

    Monkey Hill resident, Devon Caines, was fined $150 for failing to comply with a traffic sign. The offence was committed on July 30, 2010 and he was to pay the fine forthwith or serve one week at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    A $500 and a $1500 fine have to be paid by Carlton Williams of Upper Monkey Hill for his conviction of driving without due care and attention and driving under the influence (DUI) respectively. The sums must be paid by the end of November 2011, or Williams will be required to serve a month in prison.

     

    For failing to comply with traffic direction, New Road resident, Kelvon Arthurton was convicted and fined $150 which was to be paid forthwith or serve one week imprisonment. The offence was committed on August 16, 2010.

     

    Molyneaux resident, Michael Phillip, was fined $300 for driving without due care and attention. The offence was committed on November 23, 2009 and he had one month to pay the fine or serve one week behind bars.

     

    Leopold Christopher of Bird Rock, for driving without due care and attention, was fined $500 to be paid within three weeks or serve 14 days imprisonment.

     

    Newtown resident Cleveland Thom was also convicted of driving without due care and attention and was fined $300 which was to have been paid forthwith or serve one week in prison.

     

    The offence was committed on December 29, 2010.

     

    A $300 fine was issued to Gregory Skerritt of Newtown for committing a March 14, 2011 offence of driving without due care and attention. A one-week custodial sentence would be imposed should he fail to pay the fine.

     

    Both court sessions were presided over by Her Worship Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe.
