SKNYPA elects executive for 2011 – 2012

Press Release

BASSETERRE St.Kitts, September 26th, 2011 -- Ms. Jacqueline Bryan received a strong nod from the members of the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association (S.K.N.Y.P.A.) to continue as the President of the organisation for a second consecutive term (September 2011 to August 2012).

The keenly contested elections took place during the group’s Annual General Meeting which was held on Saturday 24th, 2011 at the Players’ Dining Room in Warner Park. Her Executive team now consists of Ms. Isalean Phillip as Vice President, Ms. Kerissa Roberts as General Secretary, Ms. Shauntel Liburd as Treasurer, along with Mr. Azem Bailey and Mr. Patrick Walters serving as Public Relations Officers.  Vice President, Isalean Phillip, previously served as one of the two Public Relations Officers.

In her Presidential Report of 2010–2011, Ms. Bryan highlighted a number of the Association’s activities and achievements gained throughout the year including, but not limited to, the Desmond Eli Ward Primary School Debating Competition and the Primary School Mock Parliament Sitting, the Youth Exhibition, the Family Fun Fair and the bi-monthly Comcentaplays.

She commended the members for their hard work despite the numerous challenges. “We have faced so many challenges that could have stopped us in our tracks, but the persevering and hopeful spirit of Sknyparians has always managed to jump over the hurdles and it is that same spirit that will allow for the Association to serve young people and the Federation for many more years to come.”

Ms. Bryan said.  She is the longest serving President in the history of the Association.  Ms. Bryan was first elected to the post in 2004-2005, then again from 2005-2006.

She then served as Vice President for two consecutive terms from 2006-2008. Last year she was, once again, given the support of the membership to be at the helm of the Association.  She is now entering her 4th term as President.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Curtis Martin was the featured speaker at the event and Mrs. Sharalee Kelly, SKNYPA’s first President, gave congratulatory remarks to the group on its 10th official year of service to the nation.

SKNYPA celebrated its 10th Anniversary on September 13, 2011 with a Mock Parliament Sitting in the National Assembly and a Wreath Laying Ceremony for the late Desmond Ward who was a co-founder of the group.

Anniversary activities will be held throughout the year under the theme “Standing, Leading, Changing and Supporting: One Decade of Nation Building, a Lifetime of Honour”.
