    Five enter guilty pleas at start of January 2008 Criminal Assizes

    ~~Adz:Left~~{Basseterre; St. Kitts} Five individuals submitted guilty pleas during the opening of the January 2008 Criminal Assizes which took place earlier today at the Sir Lee Llewellyn Moore Judicial and Legal Services Complex.
     
    Kishorn Rawlins who is charged with “building breaking and larceny” admitted before the Basseterre High Court that sometime between 26th and 27th January 2006, he broke into the Star of India Restaurant and stole nine packets of Benson and Hedges Cigarettes and EC$2250, property of Star of India.
     
    Seymour James who was accused of wounding Athnel Duncan on 3rd March 2007 at Sandy Point pleaded guilty to the charge of “wounding with intent” while the charge of “unlawful wounding” was withdrawn.
     
    Having been charged with the offence of “building breaking and larceny”, Clyde Bailey Jr. submitted a guilty plea. According to the indictment, on 30th January 2007, Bailey broke and entered the Beach Allen Primary School with intent to commit a felony that is to steal.
     
    Damian Harris who is jointly accused with Chavez Henry of “building breaking and larceny” pleaded guilty to breaking and entering Ideal Business Services located at Adlam Street, Basseterre on 9th August 2007 with intent to commit a felony. Henry failed to appear before the court today and a bench warrant for his apprehension was issued.
     
    Vernon Richardson admitted to the court that he, on 21st April 2007 wounded Jovel Taylor at New Road by pleading guilty to a charge of “wounding with intent”. A second count of “unlawful wounding” which was brought against him was dropped.
     
    Richardson, James and Bailey are to return to the aforementioned court on 24th January 2008 where they are scheduled to be sentenced while Harris and Rawlins are scheduled to appear for sentencing on 28th January 2008.
