BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A popular character around Basseterre, Milton ‘Shoeshine’ Phipps was recently arrested for allegedly pilfering mouthwash and a hair relaxer from a drug store.
The incident, according to information reaching SKNVibes took place on Monday, September 26, and occurred at City Drug Store 2005 Ltd, located in the TDC’s complex, Central Street.
SKNVibes understands that Phipps entered the establishment at about 10:30 a.m. when he was asked by a cashier of the establishment, if she could be of assistance to him.
He reportedly ignored her query and strolled around the store for a couple of minutes before venturing to exit the building.
When he made an attempt the exit, the alarm system was triggered and Phipps was searched by the security guard who was stationed near the drug store’s exit.
This media house understands that the search revealed two bottles of Gentle Mouthwash valued at $30.90 each and one Organic Olive Oil Cream Relaxer valued at $25.73.
Phipps is known throughout the city for offering his shoeshine service to persons for a small fee. He carries the implements for this service in a wooden box, fitted with a strap which allows him to carry it on his shoulder.
SKNVibes understands that when Phipps was searched, the items he allegedly stole were found in that box.
He was taken to the Basseterre Police Station where he was arrested and charged with larceny and has since been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison where he awaits trial.
