(L-R) Superintendent Ivor Blake-Coordinator Crisis Management Course/Assistant Secretary Ministry of National Security, Immigration and Labor; Mr Hank Morse & Mr William Sweet-Transportation Security Specialists from US Department of Homeland Security-Facilitators Crisis Management Course; Mr Starret Greene-OAS Representative for St Kitts & Nevis.
Basseterre, St. Kitts: The Organization of American States, in cooperation with the Ministry of National Security, Immigration and Labor, is sponsoring a Crisis Management Course in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis from 21st  to 25th January 2008.  The course is being held at NEMA Headquarters in Lime Kiln.

This is the organization's (OAS) first security related course for 2008, and it brings together top-ranking personnel and managers from various public and private sectors in the twin-island Federation. Participants have been selected from the Police, Airport, NEMA, Ministry of Health, Fire and Rescue Services, Defence Force, Her Majesty Prison, Immigration Department, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ross University.

According to Mr. Starret Greene, the OAS Representative resident in St. Kitts and Nevis, the course will be highly interactive and it will focus on preparing participants to respond to any crisis or calamity that could strike without warning, whether they be industrial accidents, product recalls, outbreak of an epidemic or terrorists attacks.

Mr Greene also said that basic principles of management such as team work, unity of command, planning, unity of direction and line of authority will be among some of the topics covered. “Discussions of examples of real life crisis will also form part of the course", he remarked.

The course is being facilitated by two very knowledgeable gentlemen: Mr Hank Morse and Mr William Sweet, both of whom are Transportation Security Specialists attached to the Transportation Security Administration section of the U.S Department of Homeland Security Security Enforcement Training Academy.  Also instrumental in coordinating the course from the local side is Superintendent Ivor Blake, Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Immigration and Labor.

This course comes at a perfect time, in that it coincides with our busiest travel period. Combine this with the fact that we continually try to strengthen our Tourism product, through strategic partnerships with large US Carriers such as Delta Airlines – which will start flying non-stop from Atlanta to St Kitts as of 16th February 2008 – and the fact that increasingly we(St Kitts & Nevis) are being selected as host country for a number of regional and international events (sports related and regional government forums) in recent times, this course is indeed welcome and needed.   In this day and age, no Tourism/Investment based economy can afford to not be able to guarantee the security of its visitors and citizens as well. ~~Adz:Left~~

The Organization of American States (OAS), through its Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) and in collaboration with the United States Department of Homeland Security, through its Transportation Security Administration (TSA) continues to work closely with the Government of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis to strengthen its security apparatus through regular training of security personnel in the public and private sectors.

The Organization of American States is comprised of 34 member countries from the Western Hemisphere, and is the oldest regional body in the world.
