VIFRS gear up for fire safety week & 25 years of service next week

    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, September 27th, 2011  – The Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services (VIFRS) is gearing up to celebrate 25 years as a department and 15 years of its Annual Fire Safety Awareness Week from October 2 – 9, under the theme, “Celebrating 25 Years of Educating, Preventing and Protecting for a Safer Community”.

    The week of activities will open with a church service at the Road Town Methodist Church, on Sunday, October 2 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon at Maria’s By the Sea Hotel and Restaurant.

     

    The day will conclude with a grand motorcade from Prospect Reef to Road Town and the surrounding areas beginning at 3 p.m.Other activities planned for the week will target students with a Cadet Training Programme and the public with fire related drills, fire extinguisher and detector training, an open house at all fire stations, school fire drills, lectures, sports, a walk-a-thon, and a radio quiz for children on ZBVI’s General Knowledge Quiz.

     

    There will also be free installation of child passenger seats and parents are encouraged to telephone the department to set up an installation appointment.

     

    The week will conclude with a beach picnic and family fun day at Long Bay Beach, Beef Island on October 9, beginning at 11am.

     

    Fire Safety Awareness Week is held annually to give fire officers an opportunity to display their skills and tools, which are used to save lives, protect property from destruction by fire and render humanitarian services.
