Over 70 primary school children receive football training

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Setember 28th, 2011 – This coming Saturday, a combined group of 30 young male  students from the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis will be participating in the Digicel Kick Start Clinic 2011, where they will be gaining football training from Liverpool and England Legend, John Barnes.

The three-day clinic will run from October 1st to 3rd and the Under 16 boys will engage in football training sessions with hopes of being selected by Barnes to attend the Digicel Football Academy in Trinidad later this year.

For those primary school children who did not meet the age requirement for the Digicel/John Barnes Kick Start Clinic for 2011, bus loads of juniors recently concluded a week-long football training camp. Under the tutelage of coaches from the St Kitts Nevis Football Association (SKNFA), over 70 primary school children travelled to various villages around St. Kitts for 90 minute football sessions.

Each year, Digicel - The Bigger, Better Network in partnership with the SKNFA ensure that young aspiring footballers have the opportunity to develop their skill in the sport of football through Digicel’s Kick Start Clinics.

Digicel’s Marketing Team was present during one of the football sessions to witness the ball handling skills of the young children, help to serve refreshment and also kick around a few balls.

At the end of the on-field session, Digicel’s Marketing Executive, Jeanille Osborne encouraged the young boys & girls in attendance to “continue practicing the sport you love, but also remember it is equally important to have the same discipline and commitment for your education.” All the children expressed their appreciation toward Digicel and the SKNFA for providing the training.

At Digicel, we believe the game of soccer has a unique way of bringing people together and teaching our youth not just about the skills of the beautiful game – but also about valuable life skills like discipline, respect, commitment and teamwork.
