Action during the St. Kitts and Antigua and Barbuda encounter at the Warner Park.
Press Release

BASSETERRE St.Kitts September, 28th, 2011 -- Antigua and Barbuda asserted full control on day one of Leeward Islands two day tournament versus St. Kitts at the Warner Park in St. Kitts. Antigua scored a whopping 355 for 4 from 90 overs. Orlando Peters of Antigua and Barbuda scored a fantastic century with 152 runs from 255 balls, 20 of which were 4s.

Captain Austin Richards Jr. scored 94 runs from 118 balls with 15 boundaries—14 4s and one 6. Mali Richards scored 23 runs from 65 balls, 1 of which was a 4. Bowling for St. Kitts Clavin Williams had a wicket for 44 runs from 10 overs with no maidens.

Sheno Berridge had one for 63 with one maiden from 10 overs; James Taylor bowled 19 overs with three maidens but failing to claim a wicket from 64 runs, Esroy Powell bowled 18 overs, two of which were maidens with a wicket for 74 runs. Steven Liburd had a wicket for 37 runs with two maiden overs and Elvin Berridge 1 for 56 and one maiden.

Coach Percy Daniel of the St. Kitts team was very disappointed with his team’s performance in the field. “It was, in my view a dismal performance. We were to take most of the catches offered to us….we dropped several crucial catches at almost every stage of the game,” Daniel said. The match continues Wednesday with day two at the Warner Park which will see St. Kitts taking the crease in an attempt to beat Antigua’s total of 355.

In the day’s other match, Nevis lost to Montserrat by three runs in a rain reduced match at the Conaree cricket field. The match was supposed to be the first in a two day encounter. There were some challenges on that field and the decision was made to play two one day matches, the second one to take place Wednesday.

Nevis batted first and made 189 for 5 in 40 overs. Kejel Tyson 66 runs and Carlon Smithen 37 were the top scorers for Nevis. Bowling for Montserrat, Quinton Boatswain took two wickets for 26, Lionel Baker 1 for 46, Deno Baker 1 for 18 and Tevin Osbourne 1 for 18. Forty minutes of rain reduced Montserrat’s target to 163 according to the Duckworth Lewis system.

Montserrat made 166 in 30 overs, with Brian Stephan hitting a 4 with the last ball, needing only one to win—hence the 3 run win. D. Tuitt scored 46 runs, Lionel Baker 23 and Zahuan Sweeney 33 runs. Bowling for Nevis Campbell took 3 for 35, Nelson Boland 2 for 25 and Tonito Willet 1 for 10.

Nevis will play the second one day today at the same venue. The second set of two day cricket matches will take place on September 29 and 30 with St. Kitts taking on Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda playing Montserrat.
