By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Novel Braithwaite of Keys Village, who is no stranger to the criminal justice system, was recently sentenced to serve time in prison for stealing packets of ham and cheese from a Cayon Street grocery.

SKNVibes understands that the incident took place on February 7, 2011 at the Island Food Grocery (located next to Sonia Carr’s establishment).

Reliable information received by this media house indicates that Brathwaite entered the establishment with the end of his pant legs stuffed into his shoes and secured, which would prevent any items placed therein from falling out.

Having entered the establishment, this media house understands, he proceeded to heist a number of packets of processed ham, cheese and salami by stuffing them into his pants.

His plan was foiled, however, when as he exited the store, he was stopped and searched by a police officer who discovered the items after which Brathwaite was taken to the Basseterre Police Station where he was officially arrested and charged with larceny.

Brathwaite appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrate Court on Monday (Sept. 26) where he was convicted of the offence and sentenced to serve three years at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP).

Little over one month ago, Brathwaite appeared before the same court having been charged with stealing multi-vitamins from the Valu Mart grocery store. He entered the establishment on July 21, 2011, took four Multibionta(s) from the shelf, placed them in his pocket and exited the store without paying for them.

He was apprehended and searched by a security officer and the items were found on his person.

For that offence, he was sentenced on August 12, 2011, to serve six months at HMP.

The convicted man is to begin serving the most recent sentence upon completion of the six-month sentence.

Seemingly attracted to Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP), Brathwaite was on October 31, 2007, sentenced to one month imprisonment with hard labour for committing a larceny offence. Also in 2008, he was sentenced to serve two years at HMP for pilfering 10lbs of salt fish from Superfoods Supermarket in Nevis. That offence was committed in early January, 2008.
