ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, September 30th, 2011  – The Social Development Department is providing another four-week seminar that will allow individuals in the Territory to build on their parenting skills.

The series will be held every Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Red Cross Building, beginning on October 18 and continuing until November 8, 2011. The Department will provide free childcare and refreshments.Topics for the parenting series will include: Teen Conflict and the Law; Identifying Your Parenting Style, My Developing Teen and Teen Technology.

Chief Social Development Officer, Mrs. Annie Malone-Frett stated, “The sessions are intended to provide parents and caregivers additional skills and a commonality of interests so they do not feel they have to do it alone. Parents can come with an open mind and leave with a shared experience.”

An evaluation after each session will allow the Department to receive valuable feedback from attendees on the progress of the seminar, which will also be used for planning future parenting seminars.

Persons wishing to participate may register in person at the Department of Social Development, located next to Happy Lion Restaurant, or by telephone at 494-3431. The registration deadline is October 14, 2011.

The Social Development Department of the Ministry of Health and Social Development aims to provide the population of the Virgin Islands with effective social services that will empower, promote and enrich their quality of life, while fostering individual independence.
