BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER efforts had failed for the revival of the East Basseterre Community Festival over the Independence weekend due to a number of issues beyond the committee’s control, they however continued in their efforts and will be hosting a number of events this weekend.

According to Festival Coordinator Jeffery Hanley,  tonight will see the staging of the Miss East Pearl Cultural Pageant.

Shandor Wilkinson 20, Dolena Boyd 18, Jascur Hobson 19, Tivana Richards 19 and Nordia Demming 19 will all compete in Promotional Speech, Talent, Community Cultural Dress and Evening Wear.

Hanley said the aim of the pageant is to develop the young ladies while at the same time promote unity and oneness within the community.

The Coodinator indicated that tomorrow (Oct. 1) at 2:30 p.m. there would be a Community Cultural Street Parade ‘Promoting Peace Love and Togetherness’.

He said the parade would begin at SOL on the Bay Road and move right unto Fort Street, right unto Cayon Street, left unto West Independence Square Street, then left unto South Independence Square Street, another left to East Independence Square Street and right unto Pond Road climaxing at the Newtown playing field with a jam session.

On Sunday they will host the first ever Digicel Aquatics Extravaganza commencing at 1:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Newtown Bay Road at the junction of Quality Foods and Tyre World.

The festival was initially being planned for September 10 to 19 after being dormant for seven years.
