    Nevisian wins coveted Cable and Wireless EC$100,000 prize

    Charlestown, Nevis:
    Shaun Hanley, 37, a resident of Gingerland is the proud winner of the Cable and Wireless (C&W) EC$100,000.00 following the Christmas promotion that started on November 15th and ended on December 31st 2007.
     
    CE of Cable and Wireless, Patricia Walters asked Mr. Hanley during his moment of fame, Hanley, smiled and said, “Me cool. Cool. Very good.” When asked whether he had expected to win, Hanley said, “I thought only the rich win.”
     
    Hanley told a contingent of reporters from both St. Kitts and Nevis that he would use the money to build his mother a house.  “I have land but we do not have a real house,” Hanley said in an interview. 
     
    He said his lifetime dream has been to build a permanent residence for his mother who had struggled to raise him.  Hanley, a construction worker is not married but has a child.
     
    During an interview Hanley was asked how he would manage people who might befriend him after getting such a special prize.  He was quick to say that he has struggled in life and knows who are his true friends.  “I will not allow people to dictate to me.”
     
    Hanley is not wasteful.  Since the promotion commenced, he topped his phone three times.  He disclosed that he has not topped his phone in the month of January because he still has December credit in his phone.
     
    He cannot remember the exact date he bought his C&W phone; He however recalled that he purchased his first cell phone at the time customers used to pay for incoming calls.
     
    According to Laverne Caines, Vice President of Corporate Communication, 33,000 entries were received for the cash prize.  “When we made the third draw this morning, Mr Hanley was the proud winner of EC$100,000.  Kittitians won the second and third prizes.
