Basseterre, St. Kitts: Some light has finally been shed on an “alleged shooting incident” which is believed to have taken place yesterday afternoon.
Initial reports were that Beko Lapsey, who lives in the alley which connects Fort Street and Rosemary Lane, was shot by a Defence Force soldier. While we were, at the time, unable to confirm whether or not this was so, a source told SKNVibes that Lapsey, following the incident, was able to walk himself to Emergency Medical Services’ vehicle which took him for treatment at the Joseph N. France General Hospital.
Having heard many versions of the story, SKNVibes, seeking clarification on the matter, contacted Head of the Police Force’s Press and Public Relations Office, Inspector Cromwell Henry who informed that Beko was indeed shot but not by a Defence Soldier. He said Lapsey was shot by a police officer with what he described as “non-lethal ammunition” or a “baton round”.
The incident, as Inspector Henry explained, took place around 2:00 p.m. yesterday.
“A police unit was executing a search warrant in Fort Thomas Road, Irishtown at the home of Vance Morton alias ‘Splinter’. Beko was on the premises and he attempted to run away with something in his hand. He discarded the item and was running towards the police even after he was told to stop.” ~~Adz:Right~~
SKNVibes understands that rubber bullets were discharged from a gun by one of the police officers and struck Lapsey in the shoulder area.
SKNVibes understands that Lapsey is still hospitalized and Henry explained that charges are likely to be brought against him.
