Premier Amory lays wreath in respect of the lives of those fought in the great wars. |
Charlestown Nevis (November 8, 2004); Despite overcast weather, many Nevisians found time to share in another celebration service for the lives of the brave men who fought in the two great World Wars of 1914-1918 and 1939-1945.
The service, which was held at the War Memorial Square in Charlestown on Sunday November 7, saw the usual style of a ceremonial parade of armed and unarmed units, that included officers of the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force, the Nevis Cadet Corps, the Girl Guides, students from primary and secondary schools and the Seventh Day Adventist Pathfinders.
As the service commenced, a two-minute period of stillness and silence was observed, to pay tribute to the courageousness of our forefathers. This was followed by a gun salute.
The Nevis Christian Council conducted the ceremony, which was to memorialize with gratitude, those brave men who gave their lives for justice, peace and truth in the two great wars.

Their death is not a loss, but a final offering of their lives in the service of mankind to Almighty God, was echoed by members of the Christian Council.
Each unit laid wreaths as a mark of respect for those brave men who fought so nobly for their country. The names of the twenty fallen heroes for the first war were called as well as the six names for the second war.
Some of the ex-service men attended the service as well as members of the Nevis Island Cabinet. Mr. Godfrey David, one of the ex-service men participated during the reading of the service.
