ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, October 3rd, 2011 – Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE has joined with other leaders in the region to congratulate Honourable Reuben T. Meade on the adoption of his Territory’s new constitution and for being sworn in as the first Premier of Montserrat.

In a letter to Premier Meade, Honourable O’Neal on behalf of the Government and people of the Virgin Islands expressed delight that Montserrat has reached this important and historic milestone in its political development.

“We are conscious of the hard work and commitment by yourself and your administration and we are truly pleased to commend you on this significant achievement,” Premier O’Neal stated.

Premier O’Neal assured Premier Meade of the Virgin Islands’ continued support as Montserrat begins this new chapter its political life.

Honourable O’Neal also took the opportunity to congratulate the people of Montserrat for their active involvement in the review process for the first time in the Territory’s history, adding that he is pleased with the introduction of the post of Leader of the Opposition and the responsibilities conferred upon the post which is now enshrined in the constitution.

“I pray that the Almighty God will give you wisdom and understanding as you continue to guide your territory on the right path,” Premier O’Neal noted.

The Government of the Virgin Islands has long enjoyed a friendly relationship with the Government and people of Montserrat, one of the British Overseas Territories of the United Kingdom.
