CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, October 3rd, 2011 -- Cape Air, which will operate a daily service between San Juan, Puerto Rico and Nevis from November 11, 2011, is a Gold sponsor of Pink Lily’s 2011 walk-a-thon scheduled to be held on October 15.
The walk-a-thon will commence from Chicken Stone, Gingerland at 6.00 a.m promptly and end at the Sunshine’s Bar and Grill Restaurant at Pinney’s Beach where participants will have breakfast. Prizes will be presented to walk-a-thon winners.
The walk-a-thon’s registration fee is EC25 for adults and EC15 for children. Registration forms can be collected from the Nevis Tourism Authority (NTA), Charlestown.
Pink Lily Chair and Events Coordinator, Julie Claxton has appealed to people from all walks of life and backgrounds to enlist and stand up to cancer. She reminded walk enthusiasts that it is a walk-a-thon and not a run.
Funds raised through the walk-a-thon will boost Pink Lily’s Breast Screening Program. The charity plans to offer free mammograms to another 100 women in the second phase of the Breast Screening Program. During the first phase, Pink Lily was able to offer free mammograms to 100 women at a cost of EC25, 000.
Trish Lorino, Director of Marketing and PR, Cape Air said in a press statement that one of Cape Air’s priorities is to support the communities the carrier serves through philanthropy and volunteerism. “The Pink Lily’s walk-a-thorn is a great way for us to invest in Nevis, and take a stand in the fight against cancer.
According to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Chief Medical Officer’s recent situation analysis of the Federation’s health status, there were 100 new cancer cases recorded in 2010.
