VI Fashion Week to feature world’s youngest super model
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DESCRIBED as the World’s youngest Supermodel, Diva Davanna of New York will be one of the featured models at this year’s Virgin Islands Fashion Week which is being organized by Kittitian Henry Marsham.
The event kicks off from Oct 4- Oct 9, and is described as “Two big shows, one great week” where the fashion events will be held on Oct. 8 and climax with the second show on Sunday Oct. 9, dubbed “Caribbean Cat Walk” both shows being held at the prestigious Marriott Frenchman’s Reef Resort, in St. Thomas.
“This year we will be featuring the World’s youngest supermodel Diva Davanna out of New York. Having appeared on the Tyra Banks Show, also working with Miss J on Americas Next Top Model (ANTM) Cycle 13,” he said.
Diva Davanna whose real name is Davanna Booker has been compared to the likes of Supermodel Naomi Campbell and former Supermodel Tyra Banks.
But some would say that Davanna walks the runway better than most professional models.
She has appeared on the Tyra Banks show where Tyra was so impressed by the child model that she invited her on ANTM because she felt Davanna could show her girls a “little something”.
The now 11-year-old, started ripping the runway at age four and at the age of nine had already appeared in over 200 fashion shows.
Marsham said that he was excited about Davanna being featured in the event and said that while in St. Thomas she will also visit the schools and speak to the children.
“The reason I’m featuring her is to also encourage young people to have a career in the fashion sector,” he said.
The event will also feature over 20 designers including John Ashford of New York Don J Moda House of Guyana , Siona Noel, Adia Chritopher of St. Criox, Claudia Pegus of Trinida and Tobago, Calvin Southwell of Antigua, Andre Ettienne of St.Thomas, Judith Rawlins of St.Kitts and Celita Azeha of Puerto Rico.
Marsham told SKNVibes, that Oct. 4 will kick off with the CEO’s Welcome Reception which is being held under the theme ‘Caribbean Carnival’ and will give visitors to the island for the event a taste of the Virgin Islands’ food and culture.
There will be dancers in carnival costumes, quadle dancers, mocker jumbies, steel pan music and quelbe’.
“A numbers of photo-shoots are set for designers and a card of media is expected to be on the island to cover the fashion forward event from the US mainland and Canada.
“This year Virgin Islands Fashion Week was successfully launched in New York as a tease to get US residents to visit the Virgin Islands as the focus was on the "no passport needed for US resident" to visit the VI,” Marsham said.
He continued: “This year we have added the Eco fashion presentation to VI Fashion Week which everyone is really looking forward to, I also added a cruise excursion to the other US Virgin Islands with a fashion show calling it fashion on the water.”
The Direct Music TV Caribbean Model Search Winner Yulana Gentles of St. Maarten is also expected to be a part of the event and in the past the show has featured Bianca Golden from ANTM, Ticko Donor Europe’s Supermodel and Designer Zulema Griffin of Project Runway.
