     “Who’s next?”…Pastor asks at Westerman’s Funeral Service

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – OVERWHELMED by the murder of 28-year-old Leon ‘Gravo’ Westerman, Pastor Eversley Pemberton of the New Testament Church in Bath Village asked mourners yesterday, “Who is the next target?”

Pastor Pemberton was at the time delivering a sermon during Westerman’s Funeral Service at the Methodist Church, Chapel Street, Charlestown, Nevis.

Westerman of Low Street Nevis died of multiple gunshot wounds on January 28 after being transported to Alexandra Hospital.

Pastor Pemberton, who resides on Main Street within close proximity of Angela’s Bar [the alleged place in which Westerman was shot], told mourners that he was at home at the time when the shots were fired.

“There were three shots. I heard two...then followed an awful commotion. I called the police who reviewed the operation. I did not go outside. The following day, I discovered the victim was a young man who I had interacted with. His life had been taken away,” the Pastor narrated to mourners.

Pastor Pemberton said he had found it very difficult to provide Westerman’s eight-year-old son Coleon with an answer when the child asked why his father’s belly was swollen.

westerman’s other son is six- year- old Decari.

Pastor Pemberton urged mourners to remember Leon’s family members in their prayers. Leon was the son of Masela Westerman and Wycliffe Walters.

During the viewing of the body, Westerman’s son and niece as well as other children touched his body lovingly.

The Pastor decried past incidents that had left a trail of pain: “Chapman is not with us, Edric Stanley’s mobility has been reduced. Leon Westman is dead.” Pastor Pemberton told mourners God had placed man on this world to enjoy his creation and not to live in fear of death.

~~Adz:Left~~“God never intended man to live in pain, grief or sorrow. These are the works of the devil. There live amongst us heartless vicious and extremely evil criminals who will go into any length to inflict pain on their fellow men and leave others in grief and sorrow. Leon Westerman’s untimely death is a clear testimony that all is not well in Queen City,” he said.

Directing his remarks to the Premier of Nevis, Joseph Parry, who was among the mourners, he said, “Mr Premier, I heard your condemnation of the perpetrators of this callous act the day following this unnecessary event. ...You made mention of better equipment and the neglect of the Federal government on this area and surveillance at the Ports of St. Kitts and Nevis. I am now left to wonder. I am yet waiting to be convinced whether such can be edged without a real autonomous government in Nevis.”
