CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - HIV/AIDS Prevention and Education Officer Nadine Caines dispelled rumours circulating in Nevis secondary schools that scores of students have recently tested HIV/AIDS positive.
Random interviews with students by SKNVibes confirmed that the rumours had been rife among the schools’ community, but Caines refuted them and told Charlestown Secondary School.
(CSS) students on Monday morning, during the school’s assembly, that there were no official statistics showing students were positive.
She also said it was against the law for young persons to be tested without the consent of their parents if they were under16 years. The students however did not reveal who or what had generated the rumours.
She appealed to the students to access factual information, as access to information in Nevis was easy. “You are smart! You think you know everything but you don’t. Sex is an important responsibility. You need to be careful with what you do with it,” Caines told the attentive students.
