BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE likelihood of a rise in the price of evaporated carnation milk has stimulated discussions among members of the Cabinet.
As explained in the most recent Post Cabinet Briefing, Cabinet discussed that milk suppliers have expressed that increases in the price of maintaining cows and in the price of milk-packaging material are factors that would assist in determining whether or not the price of milk increases.
“At today’s Cabinet meeting, the possibility of the increase in the price of evaporated carnation milk was discussed.
Milk suppliers have indicated that the diversion of feeding stocks for cows into the production of renewable energy has resulted in an increase in the price of feed and have been rationalising the need for increase in the price of milk products. The increase in the price of metals used in the packaging of milk is also having its impact on costs.” ~~Adz:Right~~
The Post Cabinet Briefing further explained that according to “recent calculations”, “the price of evaporated carnation milk could increase by as much as 18%”.
