BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – 'DEY get me ma mama mad' was the line Jamaican dancehall veteran Beenie Man went onstage singing last night (Oct. 8) dressed in a white pants and a purple long sleeve shirt, complemented with a lilac tie and a purple plaid jacket.
The artiste appeared on stage at 1:33 a.m. and began his performance with some of his old school hits that included ‘Let Him Go’, ‘Book Shelf’, ‘Tell Me What You Want’, ‘Toy Friend’, ‘Baby You look Fine’, ‘Memories’ ‘Old Dog Like Me’ and ‘Sim Simmer’.
During his performance, Beenie Man teased the ladies with some small gyrations which occasionally caused many of them to say “Ouuu”.
After belting out some of his old renditions, he sought the audience’s permission to leave but screams of “Noooo” prompted him to increase the tempo.
The dancehall king continued to tease the ladies by trembling his body and moving across the stage, as his band kicked in the riddim for his ‘Hum Hum’ song followed by ‘King Of The Dancehall’, ‘Back It Up’ and ‘Wine Gal’, which motivated many on the grounds of Carnival Village to ‘bubble’ their waistlines.
He introduced a new single called ‘Go Go Club’ and invited a female onstage who danced with him and added some more excitement to his performance.
As his time onstage was approaching its end, his DJ played some pop songs and got the crowd waving their hands in synchronized motion.
He then topped off his performance at 2:45 a.m. singing his 2010 hit song ‘Rum And Red Bull’ while pouring Hennessey and Red Bull to some members of the audience.
Before Beenie Man’s presence onstage, another artiste who travelled with him had entertained the crowd as well as Evolution Sound and local superstar Infamus, who performed a number of his popular tracks and gave a brief acapella.
At the end of the show many people were heard saying they enjoyed Beenie Man’s performance and that he is just a natural onstage.
Although the venue was not packed, a fair sized crowd had showed up for the concert and the show climaxed with the Small Axe Band.
