Queen Anastasia… continues to grow

Tonicia ’Queen Anastasia’ Martin
By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE reigning National Female Bacchanal Queen, Tonicia Martin, popularly known as Queen Anastasia, has announced recently that she will be returning to the calypso arena.

Despite several media interviews earlier this year where she stated that she will not return to the calypso arena, Martin told SKNVibes that she has decided to put the past issues behind her and focus on her music and fans.

The reason for her remarks about leaving the arena came from a mishap between herself and the Carnival Committee where she claimed she was not paid the full amount of her prize money as the 2010-2011 Female Bacchanal Queen.

It was an issue Martin said she took personally.

Now she is revamped and ready to return to the arena. She has her sights set on entering the Soca Monarch competition, the National Calypso Monarch and also plans to defend her crown in the Female Bacchanal.

“I had a lot of fans out there meeting me and telling me that I should return; it’s been an overwhelming response from them and also my deep love for calypso - these are the major reasons why I decided to put everything aside and return.

“My mindset is different; I know it’s not about me but more about my music. But I’m a calypsonian and I’m going to sing on topics that are a concern,” she said.

She will also be working with a new manager Olonzo Alexander, who will help in directing her career in a wider and more successful direction.

Alexander said that one of the things they’ll be working on is branching out in other genres and being a year round artiste.
He said that Martin is filled with lots of energy and he’s excited to work with her.

She is presently working on three songs and hopes to make her first release in two weeks.
