BASSETERRE, Str. Kitts – THE body of a 45-year-old man was this morning (Oct. 12) discovered hanging by the neck from a mango tree west of the Challengers Basketball Court.

The dead man’s name was given as Dwight Hughes of Challengers Village and, according to the police, officers at the Old Road Police Station had received a report of the incident at approximately 6:50 this morning.

On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes had observed Hughes’ lifeless body hanging from the mango tree with the noose of a red and white polythene rope around his neck that was securely attached to a sturdy limb of the fruit tree.

Also observed was a 2.5-foot wooden stool below Hughes’ body, which suggested he might have used to gain access to the noose that was approximately eight feet above the ground.

Hughes was pronounced dead on the scene by District Medical Officer Dr. Vance Gilbert and his body was removed by undertakers of Jenkins Funeral Home.

Police also indicated that investigations are ongoing.

Hughes is the second man to have died over a three-day period under suspicion of suicide.

The first was 60-year-old Burnagie Hendrickson, whose body was discovered in the yard of his La Guerite residence on Monday (Oct. 10).
