~~Adz:Left~~CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - MAGISTRATE Yasmine Clarke told the youth in Nevis Tuesday that she was greatly saddened by gang-related crimes.

The Magistrate was addressing Roger Myers, Jeano Forbes and Jalmin Myers shortly before she sentenced them for being involved in a fight in Charlestown on September 13, 2007.

Jalmin was convicted and cautioned for being disorderly but will pay a fine of EC$500 for unlawfully throwing missiles, while Roger was convicted and cautioned and Forbes will pay a fine of EC $500. Roger and Forbes must pay the fines within a month or serve a jail term.

Magistrate Clarke heard the fracas on the material day but did not see the actual incident.  Her Worship saw Jalmin resist arrest. She told the arresting officer, Irvin Bradshaw, that he should have charged Jalmin with an additional offence of resisting arrest.

“It is sad, three men went to school together but they cannot co-exist because one lives in Stoney Grove and another in Low Street. They do not seem to understand the atmosphere they are creating; they want people to be afraid….it is very sad to see what is happening,” Her Worship said.

The Magistrate decried the crime trend where youngsters aged 15 to 30 years were committing crimes and said it was rare to see persons over 40-years-old committing crimes. “You are not allowed to wear a certain colour,” the Magistrate said and noted that gang-related criminal activities were ruining the reputation of Nevis. “I find all three of them guilty,” she said.

Meanwhile, a juvenile arrested for driving without a license appeared in court Tuesday. The vehicle he was driving was uninsured. He is on EC$500 bail until the case is heard.
