Basketball City, St.Kitts, October 11th 2011-- “20 IN 2011!” This is the refrain of a confident Hitters Coach James “Barman” Hanley as he leads his team into a must win Game 4 against Ghaut Bucs on Thursday.
Despite being down 2-1 and facing a series loss on Thursday Hanley remains confident and is probably more so as of today as his prized overseas based player Marvin “Skywalker” Davis returned home to enhance Hitters chances and ensure Coach Hanley’s prediction of “20 in 2011” which refers to Hitters quest for their 20th SKABA title. Davis practiced with the team on Tuesday night at Basketball City and his presence has no doubt lifted the spirits of the Hitters players who were undoubtedly dejected after an 18 point drubbing in Game 3.
Ghaut Bucs has averaged a 13 point margin of victory in their two wins while losing only by 2 points in the one loss. The presence of Skywalker will without a doubt change the dynamics of the series and will mean that Ghuat Bucs will have to dig deep and not only worry about containing Marlon “Jah Love” Powell and Ansel “Bonzi” Revan but now they will have to contend with the former Barry University Forward Davis.
Ghuat Bucs will have to step up their play and big men Dwight “Mac 11” Jacobs, Brian “Corny” Morris and Kemo Liburd will have to assert themselves and control the frontcourt despite the presence of Davis.
Bucs fortunes will rest on the consistent play of Tamboura “Tamby” Caines . Guards Sherwin Allen and J. Benjamin will have to play with heightened urgency and a greater sense of purpose as turnovers must be kept to a minimum.
The Ghaut Bucs will no doubt find confidence and comfort in the fact that in the 2009 Finals series between Hitters and Ghetto Roots Davis returned then but was unable to carry Hitters past Ghetto Roots who won the championship in impressive fashion despite the presence of Davis who was playing college basketball at the time with Barry University Buccaneers.
The momentum in the series is no doubt in favour of Ghuat Bucs and they will want to close out the series on Thursday. A Game 5 will be a difficult proposition after losing a Game 4.
Thursday nights game 4 will surely be another historic and memorable and exciting night in the annals of SKABA. Ghuat Bucs goes for Title 1 while Hitters will be hoping to keep their hopes of title 20 alive.
