BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - Clyde Thompson, a caretaker at Sands Complex, suffered head injuries on Friday 15th following an altercation with a young man trying to gain entry to the complex.

Thompson was taken to JNF General Hospital where he was treated and released, but was subsequently readmitted due to the severity of the injuries.

Reports indicate that the young man who attacked Thompson had made threats to a health care provider and then proceeded to the private medical facility in Sands Complex where Thompson works. Thompson was “pushed down” when he and other staff tried to prohibit the young man from entering the building.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Elvis Newton, said that there was no previous record of the attacker making threats to Thompson or anyone else at the Complex and he sincerely hopes “this is an isolated incident and does not become the status quo.”

Newton also said that the Ministry of Health is currently working with Law Enforcement to ensure proper security measures are put in place to protect all health care workers, “especially at hospitals” where employees could be in danger of attacks.  ~~Adz:Right~~

A press release from the Ministry encouraged “members of the general public who have questions and comments about the quality of care rendered in public health care facilities to address them to the attending doctor or nurse, or to the administration of the facility.”

The Ministry of Health added that they hoped something like this would not happen again in the future.

Police would only say that a young man was in custody following the incident, but no indication was given as to whether or not criminal charges would be brought against the alleged perpetrator.
