Prerequisites for Police Record

~~Adz:Right~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE public is being reminded of prerequisites which are needed if one is to obtain a police certificate which is also known as a police record.
According to the policy guidelines followed by the Criminal Records Office (CRO), persons wishing to acquire a police certificate on behalf of another, will have to take a birth certificate along with a picture ID or a passport as well as a letter from the individual informing that permission is granted for a police certificate to be issued to the bearer of the letter.
The following are required on application for a police certificate:
1. Persons should have attained the age of 16;
2. If born in St. Kitts or Nevis, a birth certificate along with a valid Photo ID or passport should be presented;
3. Persons who were not born in St. Kitts or Nevis MUST have a valid Temporary/Work Permit, letter of employment from employer and their passport;
4. Persons who are married and their passport does not bear their marriage title MUST present their Marriage Certificate;
5. Persons who have attained Citizenship of St. Kitts and Nevis MUST present the original certification;
6. Persons living overseas and need a police certificate should make available their Original Birth Certificate (along with a valid photo ID) or passport. A letter giving permission to uplift certificate should also be presented;
7. Faxing of documents would only be accepted in Extraordinary cases from persons overseas. These documents MUST be sent through the Commissioner of Police (1-869-465-7078). One must bear in mind that each Police Certificate has a value of EC$10 in stamps;
8. If a person is presenting photocopied documents, they MUST be Notorised;
9. Students who are attending schools or colleges in St. Kitts or Nevis and are not nationals MUST present their passport and a letter from the school or college indicating that they attend the said school or college.
Persons are also reminded that in order for one to be eligible for a police certificate, he or she must be living in the Federation for at least six consecutive months. The certificates, once issued, are valid for three months.
