~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - DISPLAYING what appeared to be a change of heart, Worrell Maynard stood before Justice Francis Belle on Tuesday and changed the “not guilty” plea he had entered at the begining of the criminal assizes and confessed to his wrong doing.

Maynard was accused of breaking into the home of Tychelle Hopson and stealing contents there from.

The trial date for the case was set for yesterday [Wednesday] but Maynard, having appeared at the Basseterre High Court on Tuesday before presiding judge, Justice Belle, announced that he is in fact guilty of the charge preferred against him.  Justice Belle ordered Maynard to pay compensation to Hobson in the sum of EC$1 290 within a three-month time frame.

He was also ordered to pay $2 000 to the court as punishment for the crime. This fine is to be paid within six months and if he fails to follow the prescription, he will face an 18-month prison sentence.

The January 2008 Criminal Assizes continues at 9:00 on Monday morning.
