Trainer, Mr. Jason Gaffney

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 21st February, 2008 – Three years consecutively, being awarded the best Adventure Tour group by Princess Cruise lines is an exemplary accomplishment. What does it take to gain such an award so many times? What must a business do to be able to achieve this? It would be a good opportunity to meet with the owner(s) of such an award winning organization to find out!
Just over 25 Adventure Tour Operators on St. Kitts and Nevis were presented with this very opportunity recently. Jason Gaffney of Alaska Mountain Guides and Climbing School Incorporated conducted a two-day workshop in which he covered: safety; professionalism; how to ensure consistency in the delivery of quality; customer service; guest management protocols and other topics.
The participants were eager to acquire the knowledge to add to their own base, which was evident in the discussions that developed during the training.

Participants of Training |
One of the participants, Greg Pereira of Greg Safaris said, “The training really opened my eyes to the importance of safety on my tours. It made me realize that we should be more prepared to handle emergencies and overall it was a very telling experience.”
Errington Fyfield of KANTOURS noted, “The participants were happy. They learnt a lot and now have a better understanding of the cruise industry and what is expected of them.”
Stressing on the issue of standards, Mr. Fyfield adds, “the training was chiefly concerned with risk management and safety as cruise lines seek to ensure that their passengers are in safe hands when they are off the ship. Tour operators must protect themselves from liability and that can only happen when standards are followed.”
This training was jointly was a public and private sector initiative, organized by KANTOURS (destination management company), Carnival Cruise Lines and the St. Kitts Tourism Authority.
