Press Release

New York City, October 14th, 2011 - Victor Mooney of Forest Hills recently received the sponsorship from The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board (BVITB) for his upcoming five-thousand mile transatlantic row from Las Palmas, Canary Islands to New York City, with a resupply in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

"It was also refreshing to receive the moral support from the Governor of the Virgin Islands, Mr. Boyd Mc Cleary, CMG, CVO and Mr. Ronald W. Mc Ananey, Ph.D., Chairman, HIV-AIDS Foundation (BVI) Limited", said Mooney. The U.S. Caribbean Partnership Framework (PEPFAR) also wished Victor a successful venture.

Mooney will set off from Las Palmas, Canary Islands beginning on World AIDS Day – December 1st (weather permitting). Globecomm Systems, Inc., a New York based satellite communications company, announced today their sponsorship at the SATCON Conference & Expo, which will enable Mooney to exchange emails, receive weather reports, talk to love ones, make facebook and twitter updates from his rowboat.

Mooney hopes his mission will encourage voluntary HIV testing and increase advocacy for prevention.

“Keeping with tradition, I'll christen "the castaway" with a sprinkle of Pusser's Rum” before heading off, Mooney added.
