    Police improving relationship with Communities

~~Adz:Left~~ BASSETERRE, St. Kitts:  The Police High Command is continuing its efforts to ‘forge links’ between the Police force and the general public. A town hall meeting will be held tonight February 26th at the Conaree community centre with police officials, the parliamentary representative and the opposition candidate of the area.

According to Police Public Relations and Press Officer Inspector Cromwell Henry this meeting is the fifth of a series of town hall meetings that are being held throughout the island.

He said the purpose of the meetings is to reassure the community of the police commitment to fighting and reducing crime and also to forge links between the police and the community.

Henry went on to say that the turn-out at the previous four town hall meetings held in Newtown, Mc Knight, Old Road and Sandy Point were fair but could have been better.  He also said that two of the main concerns persons spoke of at each meeting were the slow response to reports and the lack of police presence in the communities.

“We have since established 24-hour mobile and foot patrols. Officers wear both civilian clothes and uniforms and we have also taken steps to improve our response time to reports” said the Inspector.

He also mentioned that they are enforcing measures to make sure that follow-ups are carried out on reports made.

The Inspector took the opportunity to invite residents of Conaree and the surrounding areas to come out and have their views heard as well as to ask questions on any concerns they may have.
