One held for Wilkinson’s murder; police seek another
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE men are currently assisting police with their investigations into the shooting-death of Noel ‘Zambo’ Heath and Wendell ‘Dog’ Wilkinson, both of Cardin Avenue, Trafalgar Village.
According to a press release, Commissioner of Police Celvin Geron ‘CG’ Walwyn, who was out of the Federation on official duty, has recently returned and filed a report on the two homicides.
The release states that during a series of operations conducted by the recently-formed Delta Squad, two men were arrested and taken into custody “on suspicion of allegedly murdering Noel ‘Zambo’ Heath”.
It further states that members of the Delta Squad had also arrested one person on suspicion of killing Wilkinson, and another person is being sought in connection with the same incident.
The release indicated that investigations into the two matters are ongoing and that “the Commissioner of Police wishes to thank the public for their tremendous support to the police”.
Heath (61) was shot outside of his home shortly before 5:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011 while preparing to visit his farm.
According to the Acting Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, Sergeant (SGT) Edward Drew, at approximately 5:05 this morning police received a report of a shooting incident at Cardin Avenue.
“We responded immediately and conducted inquiries, which revealed that shortly before receipt of the report Mr. Noel Heath was outside his home, at the side of the road, when some unknown person(s) fired a number of shots at him.
“The bullets struck him several times about his body and he was taken to the JNF Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Investigations into this matter are ongoing.” SGT Drew told SKNVibes.
Noel ‘Zambo’ Heath’s death has taken the total number of homicides committed in the Federation for the year to a staggering 31, surpassing the record-high 27 recorded in 2009.
Wilkinson was the 19th homicide victim for 2011.
The 22-year-old was shot multiple times to the body on the morning of Friday (July 8) in the vicinity of a shop in Union Street and succumbed to his injuries while undergoing emergency medical treatment at the JNF General Hospital.
On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes spoke to a number of people who, under the condition of anonymity, said that while Wilkinson was seated among a group of men, two young men – one dressed in black and the other in brown – came from an easterly direction along Union Street and slowly walked passed them.
One of the persons explained that the two men, “who seemed to be no older than 17 years”, suddenly turned back and fired four shots and Wilkinson got up and started to run through an alley west of the shop.
“The two men chased after him and fired four more shots. He then ran onto Jean Street, crossed St. Johnston Avenue and fell down near to a pear tree. None of us who were seated there knew the men; this morning is the first time we had seen them in The Village and they seemed unconcerned about their identity, because they were not wearing any masks.
“It also seemed as if they knew who they wanted because they didn’t fire shots at anybody else. And after shooting at him, they slowly walked east along Union Street and made their way out of The Village,” the person said.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Walwyn also reported that yesterday (Oct. 15), while on a joint patrol, members of the Delta Squad had discovered 1 500 marijuana plants.
No one was held in connection with the find, but he however noted that investigations are ongoing.
The report however did not indicate the location of the find.
