BASSETERRE, St. Kitts:  The Federation recorded its sixth road fatality for 2008 when a traffic accident that occurred on February 27 left a Greenlands man dead.

Inspector Vynetta Wyatt, Head of the Traffic Department told SKNVibes.com that at approximately 7:10pm yesterday, Percival Huggins, who resided at Rose Lane, was hit by motor van P4120.

At the time of the accident, the van owned by ZIZ Broadcasting Corporation was being driven by Chief Production Officer, Vernon Tyrell of Shadwell Housing.

She said the van had been traveling into Basseterre along Cayon Street in the vicinity of Greenlands when the pedestrian (Huggins) crossed the road and was hit by the oncoming vehicle. Huggins was transported to the J.N.F Hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.

No information was forthcoming regarding whether the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody or if he would face any criminal charges relating to Huggins’ death.

Wyatt assured that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident are ongoing.

This latest road fatality comes on the heels of last Tuesday’s accident that claimed the life of 61 year-old Esau Belle of Parsons Village when the vehicle in which he was a passenger, over turned while reportedly attempting to avoid an oncoming passenger bus.
