    Caribbean Neighbours Observe and Applaud the Dynamic Action of the NRP Led Nevis Island Administration
     
    ~~Adz:Left~~ (Charlestown, Nevis- Friday, February 29, 2008) Premier of Nevis, the Honourable Joseph Parry welcomed a United States Virgin Islands (U.S.V.I) and a Saba delegation to Nevis Wednesday to discuss the Nevis Geothermal energy plan and how the two islands could benefit.
     
    The USVI delegation, led by Lt. Governor, Mr. Gregory Francis, included Nevisian born, Mr. Roosevelt David, former Senator in the USVI and Mr. Nathan Simmonds, Senior Policy Advisor, while the Saba delegation included Commissioner’s, Chris Johnson and Bruce Zagers.
     
    During Premier Parry’s introductions of the cabinet, Lt. Governor Francis said he was very pleased to see such a young staff as part of the government.
     
    “The hospitality that we have received on the island has been great; the staff has gone above and beyond. I also love looking around the table and seeing a young group of people, which means you are doing something great for the future of Nevis,” remarked Mr. Francis.
     
    During the meeting Lt. Governor Francis expressed delight, that a small regional island such as Nevis has begun the push towards geothermal energy. He also said he was pleased to receive an invitation to inspect the geothermal drilling site and have talks with all the major players of the project.
     
    Meanwhile, the geothermal venture is currently being developed by West Indies Power, Nevis Ltd.
     
    Presently, at peak Nevis consumes only 9 megawatts of energy and the present drilling site at Spring Hill is expected to generate between 50-200 megawatts of geothermal energy.
     
    Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of West Indies Power Nevis Ltd., Mr. Kerry MacDonald, recently stated that when Nevis goes totally on stream with geothermal energy the island will be able to supply 100% of their electricity and also export this energy to St. Kitts and other islands in the region.
