Premier Division gets off to an Exciting Start

Press Release

Over the weekend the 2011/2012 Premier Division began with double headers on Saturday and Sunday.

BASSETERRE St.Kitts, October 18th, 2011 -- Saturday’s games began at 6:00 pm with last year’s second runner up S L Horsford St Pauls and UDC Garden Hotspurs.  The first match of the season was even more interesting as S L Horsford St Pauls was being coached by UDC Garden Hotspurs former coach Austin “Dico” Huggins. Huggins would have to prove himself to his new team and also face his old team and supporters.

UDC Garden Hotspurs stunned S L Horsfords St Pauls with the first goal of the season in the 4th minute of the game by Javid Sobratie. S L Horsford would not be able to counter until the second half in the 67th minute.  St Pauls scored again late in the half in the 85th & 90th minute sending UDC Garden Hotspurs back to the locker room to review the disappointing lost.

The second game was also a matchup of the Champions with Premier Division champs Rams Village Superstars versus Division 1 champs and newly promoted Cayon.  Cayon showed that they were going to be a threat in the Premier League as they held the champion Rams Village superstars to a 1-1 draw.  Cayon scored first in the second half in the 51st minute and soon after Rams Village Superstars would equalize with a goal in the 65th minute.

Sunday’s matches began with Harris Paint St Peters versus Mantab. Harris Paint St Peters would start their season off to a brilliant start with a 3-2 win over Mantab.  Harris Paint St Peters missed out on being in a top four spot last season as is determined to not allow this to happen in the new season.

The second match on Sunday’s card was Delphic Newtown United versus St Thomas Trinity Strikers.  This match was a well anticipated matchup as most of Delphic Newtown players are suspended for five games of the season and would have to utilize new players in their starting lineup.

St Thomas Trinity Strikers would score first in the 34th minute.  Delphic Newtown would answer back with two goals, proving that they were still a strong team and dismissing the St Thomas Trinity Strikers with a 2-1 win.

Matches continue this week, with games being played on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and Sunday.

Tuesday’s games are big ones as a repeat of last season’s final matchup would take place with Rams Village Superstars will meet S L Horsford St Pauls.  S L Horsford St Pauls have a win under their belt while Village is searching for their first win. Who will be victorious?
