BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, October 18th 2011 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas says he welcomes the questions, comments, suggestions from all persons on issues of national interest.

Dr. Douglas was responding Tuesday to a caller who said that some supporters of the ruling St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party had criticized him for “disturbing the Prime Minister” with the type of questions he poses to him during his weekly radio programme “Ask the Prime Minister.”

“You are not disturbing me. You are a critical part of the policy of good governance, accountability and transparency that is being pursued by my Government, my Administration through various means of communication and bringing information to people in a timely and reliable manner,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

“Being on this radio programme ‘Ask the Prime Minister’, my monthly press conference by me as Prime Minister, the ‘Face to Face,’ with the public – the last one in January this year to mark the election victory – was another means by which we can bring ourselves as the government members face to face with our people.”

“The weekly Cabinet Briefings after the routine meeting of the Cabinet is yet another means of ensuring that we are in touch with our people,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who also referred to the consultations before legislation is debated in the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly.

“This is what we are trying to avoid and the various programmes including “Ask the Prime Minister,” are to keep the electorate up to date and informed,” said Dr. Douglas.

“As the Prime Minister and as the Elected Representative of the people of St. Christopher 6 (Newton Ground to Harris’, I see myself as the servant leader, not as a master but as the servant of the people who have elected me and the people of this country on whose behalf I lead as Prime Minister. I lead as a servant,” said Dr. Douglas.
