BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - SECURITY personnel on St. Kitts had quite a busy weekend with the launch of a massive operation conducted in the Basseterre area.

Officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force on Friday, February 29 conducted about 100 stop and searches aimed at apprehending traffic violators and the seizure of illegal firearms, drugs and stolen property.

As explained in a police press release, some 100 vehicles and their occupants were searched, 110 traffic tickets were issued, two unlicensed and uninsured vehicles seized and controlled drugs were found.

The tickets, according to the release, were issued for various traffic violations including “driving with defective number plates” and “driving an unlicensed vehicle”.

Resultant of the operation, 36 pieces of crack cocaine were found.  The crack cocaine was found at “an abandoned property in Ponds Pasture that was been used as a gambling house” and is said to have a street value of EC$900. The house’s occupants managed to escape capture by the security forces and, to date, no one has been held accountable for the find.

Two persons were also arrested and charged with “possession of cannabis” after marijuana was found on their person.

The High Command of the Police and Defence Forces wish to thank the public for its cooperation and patience during the course of the operation.
