    CHARGED:Bernel Viera
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONE day after Bernel Viera of Half Way Tree was arrested by the authorities, three charges were preferred against him.

Last Thursday morning [February 28] while on a routine patrol in the Old Road area officers approached Viera in the River Side area and he attempted to evade them, but his efforts were futile.

When searched, as explained by the police, a .380 pistol and four rounds of ammunition were taken from Viera’s person and he was charged with “possession of a firearm” and “possession of ammunition”. A press release issued today (Monday) informs that last Friday he was charged with the said offences.

Meanwhile, in another operation on February  28, police officers of the District ‘B’ Response executed a search warrant on Viera’s premises for drugs, firearms and ammunition.

According to a police release, “A quantity of dried vegetable material suspected to be cannabis, one army jacket and one army rain coat were found on the premises and seized by the Police.”

Consequently, “possession of cannabis” and “possession of cannabis with intent to supply” were the charges laid against.

Viera is expected to appear before the court shortly.  ~~Adz:Right~~
