Wycliff Liburd freed of rape charge

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - HE arrived in handcuff, but less than an hour later, Wycliffe Liburd left the courthouse shackle-free and a liberated man as the charge of “rape” brought against him was dropped.
Liburd appeared before the Basseterre High Court yesterday morning when his trial was to have begun. After the then-accused man was called to the prisoner’s dock, presiding judge Justice Francis Belle ordered the courtroom be cleared.
While SKNVibes is uncertain as to what transpired in that room at that time, the media house was present when Liburd exited the building which houses the courtroom.
When asked by SKNVibes if he is a free man, his reply was, “Yes”, and when asked how he felt having been freed of the charge, he said, “Fantasmagorical”.
SKNVibes sought to ascertain the exact reason for the dismissal of the charge against Liburd, and was told “the matter was dismissed for want of prosecution.”
Liburd was arrested sometime around Wednesday, July 19, 2006, as it was alleged that he committed what was described as a “brutal rape” and his case has been traversed a number of times. ~~Adz:Right~~
A man, who was said to have been a witness in the case, 51-year- old Scottie Osbourne of Upper College Street, was discovered dead in the house which he and his brother occupied, with one gunshot wound to his head.
Police, in previous reports, informed that they were alerted of Scotty’s murder at about 6:20 a.m. on the day in which he was to have testified as the main witness at the preliminary inquiry.
