BASSETERRE, St. Kitts,(SKNIS)– October 20, 2011 --   The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis will be among countries of the Commonwealth of Nations commemorating the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, during her 60th year of reign, 2011 to 2012.

The organizing committee for the official launch of activities met recently under the chairmanship of His Excellency Sir Cuthbert Sebastian. Among the activities planned are the official launch of celebratory activities, a grand parade of the Defence Force, Police and the uniformed bodies; the beautification and restoration of monuments in Saint Kitts and Nevis; school quizzes, poetry, essay, prose art and craft competitions; a Defence Force Band Recital, special activities at the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park and several other activities.

Queen Elizabeth II ascended the throne on February 6, 1952, and was coronated on June 2, 1953. Her Majesty commemorated her Silver Jubilee in 1977 and celebrated her Golden Jubilee in 2002. Queen Victoria, in 1897, was the only other British monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee.
