CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - NBC’s Will and Grace star Debra Messing, who is vacationing in Nevis, was at Sunshine’s new location next to Shevy’s yesterday.

Messing was in the company of friends and her assistant, Gene Quigley, and gave her description of Nevis as “very friendly people”.

Asked why she chose Nevis as her vacation destination, Quigley, answering on her behalf, said, “We wanted an authentic place with friendly people and that is Nevis in a nutshell.

“We have been to Eddy’s, Coconut Grove and to the best of the best – Sunshine’s. We have met friendly people with bright smiles and have enjoyed the great Sunshine’s Killer Bee and the impeccable service…these guys are great.”

It was business as usual for Llewellyn ‘Sunshine’ Caines and his employees. They maintained the usual warmth and friendliness as they served both locals and tourists who were excited to learn that Sunshine had re-opened his restaurant.

Frankie Powell, a local friend of Caines, recalled Sunshine’s humble beginnings, “There was a time he had only chicken and two crates of beer…long before Four Seasons was established.”

Oscar, a New Yorker, described Sunshine as the best host in the world. Oscar said he was a world traveller and had concluded that Sunshine was outstanding, “The food is fantastic.”  ~~Adz:Right~~

Dashan Caines an employee at Sunshine’s had this to say: “It is like opening a new page. Although Sunshine is living above the waters, at times he recalls the challenges he had to face over the years.”

“At one time I was robbed at gun point. At another time, and this was the most painful, I woke up to find a hurricane had blown away everything…life is not fair, but God is good.”

Sunshine and his employees have busy days ahead of them as they put up physical structures that were demolished last week Wednesday following the execution of a Court Order, where the owner of the land where his business was located wanted it back.

Sunshine said the Government’s intervention had enabled him to reopen without much delay.

Famous for his tasty rum punch drink, the Killer Bee, and the best food on the island, Sunshine’s has been the most prominent tourist attraction in Nevis for over 12 years. No visit is complete without a stop at Sunshine’s where you can meet the legend himself, Sunshine. While the legend will chat about almost anything, he is quite secretive about the exact ingredients in the Killer Bee. “First there’s some rum, then some passion fruit juice,” he says. "Then some more rum.”

The restaurant is open all week for lunch, dinner, dancing and drinking. His menu consists of a variety of tasty BBQ dishes including fresh local lobster, fish, shrimp, chicken and ribs. Sunshine also makes delicious salads utilising the bounty of vegetables and fruits grown on Nevis.

Opens daily at 11 a.m., Sunshine and his staff will keep the bar hopping and the music cranking until the early morning hours, as long as the guests are happy and the Killer Bees are keeping everyone buzzing!
