BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE FND Enterprise Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. on Thursday (Oct. 20) joined its local and international counterparts in celebrating International Credit Union Day and extended gratitude to its customers for their patronage.
The opening of the institution’s doors that morning signalled not only the usual invitation for customers to enter and conduct business, but also to learn more about the FND Credit Union, the services it offers and the Credit Union Movement.
Visitors to the entity’s compound were greeted by staff members who presented them with educational literature and snacks as part of the commemoration.
The observance upheld the theme “Credit Unions build a better world”, and in the general credit union spirit of “people helping people” the FND Credit Union offered two special incentives to its members for that day.
According to the Marketing and Member Relation Officer for FND Enterprise Credit Union, Patricia Williams, the regular three-month waiting period which members would have to endure before applications for loans could be made was waived. Hence, applications for loans would be processed with three to five days once the requisite documentation is provided.
She also explained that persons who would have made deposits of $100 or more into their savings account would have been given a free gift as part of the observance.
“Credit Unions build a better world and the FND Credit Union is saying to their members today, ‘thank you’ for allowing us to be successful as a credit union over the past two years. We have extended our reach, we have built our membership base, we have gone back to the clients under the Foundation for National Development who have come on to the FND Credit Union.”
She also explained that the day’s observance extended throughout the month, which coincided with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB)-led observance of Financial Information Month (FIM).
“For this month, we have been celebrating International Credit Union month with several activities. We had our workshop on Financial Planning and Success on October 6. We participated in the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and the other financial institutions’ Financial Information Month. There was a business symposium on October 18. We had our charity outreach on October 15 and I have made presentations to schools and companies last week. So, it’s a real effort for us to put our name out there as a viable alternative…as a viable option.”
The FND Enterprise Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. evolved from the one-dimensional Foundation for National Development (FND) and became a registered cooperative in July 2009 and began accepting deposits for its savings component in December of that year.
