Chippie proves they’re here to stay

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: It was indeed ‘Chippie time’ on Saturday March 8th as the telecommunications company took their services to the people with an island wide rally.

The UTS ‘Chippie’ rally started at Sprat-net in Old Road moving Eastward on the Island’s main road making stops in most villages or hot spots.

According to Alfred Harley, Sales and Marketing representative of Chippie, during their stops, fifteen new ‘Chippie Billboards’ featuring the ‘Miss Back To Roots Queen’ Trevicia Adams were unveiled at various strategic locations.

“We have achieved our ultimate goal, that being, letting the people in both the rural and urban areas know that Chippie is still here and we are here to stay.”

He went on to say that the activities started with Trevicia Adams leading the motorcade seated on a brand new BMW SUV accompanied by the Chippie entourage and Evolution Sound Family and Chris ‘Lord Short Pants’ Roberts on the microphone.

Harley said the motorcade proceeded easterly and headed to Basseterre taking the route of Central and Church Street then heading to Bank Street where the team stopped to give away some goodies and continue their phone sales.

Collision Band was already rocking the crowd at Bank Street and when the crew and the ten beautiful Chippie Girls arrived the party got started. The group left the Basseterre area through Fort and Cayon Street and after a pit stop at the Chippie Office on Cayon Street where a new office sign was erected, the group headed towards Bird Rock for the unveiling of one of Chippie’s biggest billboards. They then took the festivities to Cayon and the other villages on that side of the island.

“It was an exciting time,” he said, “but some villages were skipped when it started to rain but the momentum picked up in St. Pauls when the Evolution Sound jammed for the residents there while the Chippie Girls continued giving away thousands of Chippie goodies” he continued.

The street rally came to an exciting conclusion at Sprat Net where Small Axe Band entertained the huge crowd until about 1 a.m. Even a brief power interruption could not dampen the Chippie spirit as glow-in-the-dark trinkets illuminated the venue.

“Our goal was achieved. We knew that some time ago there were some billboards which were taken down and everyone got the impression that Chippie was going out of business. We believe that with all that we are doing and continue to do to promote the product, there will be no doubt in the minds of the people of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis that the company is here to stay” said Harley.

He said that the next stop for Chippie is the Sister Island Nevis where they will be simulating the same activities as they have had on St. Kitts.

He said while the partying and the phone sales are continuing, Chippie’s technical team was working around the clock to ensure that the value added services that have made Chippie what it is elsewhere in the Caribbean, are ready to be deployed in St. Kitts and Nevis by the end of the first quarter of this year.

Harley ended by saying “I want to extend a special Thank You to all who contributed to making Saturday’s event a very successful one and to the people of St. Kitts for their continued support of Chippie.”
