BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT has been business as usual at the District ‘A’ Traffic Court and, over the past month, close to 20 individuals were issued fines as comeuppance for their traffic violations.
The guilty parties have a combined total of almost EC$10 000 in fines to pay.
Pascal Hutchinson of Upper Shear lane was convicted of driving without licence, driving without insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving an unlicenced vehicle.
He was fined $300, $1 000, $100 and $100 for the respective offences and the sums are to be paid by November 17 or a custodial sentence would be imposed by the court.
The offences were committed on September 17, 2011.
Lorraine Hendrickson-McKenzie of West Farm was fined $200 for a driving an unlicenced vehicle and $800 for a driving without insurance.
The infractions were committed on July 26, 2011 and payment is due by October 31, or a 14-day custodial sentence to be served at Her Majesty’s Prison.
Conaree resident Gabriel Thomas has three weeks to pay a $700 fine imposed by the court for “driving without due care and attention” committed on February 9, 2010.
Thomas will have to serve one month in prison if the fine is not paid on time.
For driving without a driver’s licence, driving under the influence, driving without due care and attention and driving without insurance, Matthew Lee of Middle Island was fined $500, $1 000, $200 and $1000 respectively.
All sums were to be paid forthwith and the offences were committed on September 5, 2011.
Bird Rock resident Shane Periera was fined a total of $500 for committing offences of driving an unlicenced vehicle and keeping vehicle for use.
He would have faced a 14-day prison sentence had the fines not been paid forthwith.
Osbourne Street, Cayon resident Harvey Liburd was charged with failing to comply with direction of a police officer, blowing horn to solicit passengers, failing to produce proof of insurance and failing to comply with traffic sign on May 2, 2011.
A $100 fine for each offence was imposed, to be paid within two weeks of conviction.
Lower Monkey Hill resident Shannoid Bass, for failing to comply with lawful direction of a police officer and causing unnecessary obstruction of traffic, was convicted and cautioned.
For a September 24, 2011 offence of exceeding the speed limit, Jermaine Pringle of Cayon was fined $500.
Linden Dickenson of Frigate Bay, Charles Bassue of Irishtown and Javid Warner of Middle Island were all fined for unrelated offences of driving without due care and attention. The first was fined $300 while the second and third were fined $500 each.
Wilmot Buchanan of Bird Rock was also charged with driving without due care and attention but was issued a word of caution.
Pitcairn Street resident Ricky Seagobin, Chris Weeks of St. Pauls and Leroy James of Saddlers were each fined $200 for failing to comply with traffic sign offence. The sums were to be paid forthwith or the men would have faced one-week prison sentences.
A $300 fine was issued to Leroy Davis of Middle Island for committing an April 1, 2011 offence of driving without due care and attention. He had until the end of this month to pay the fine or, in default, spend one week at Her Majesty’s Prison.
William Boddie of Sprott Street faced a similar charge and was convicted but cautioned. That offence was committed on July 30, 2009.
